Buffeted

John 3:8
The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going.
So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.

Monk's cell looked out over the moors. He remembered as a child building kites with long tails, flying them high in the sky. It was fun, wind buffeting them, coming from changing directions - or dropping suddenly to a calm.

So it was with the Holy Spirit buffeting life from adventure to adventure, neither clinging onto what was nor holding the way ahead too firmly in his grasp.

He felt that breeze again at his back, realizing maybe this time he had got close to laying selfish plans wanting his own way - he closed his eyes, and let go.

Palm Sunday

Palm Sunday was a great time of rejoicing in Jerusalem as Jesus, the saviour foretold in the Old Testament rode into town on a donkey.
We know how this same crowd turned from being for to being against Jesus just a few days later.
How easily are we swayed in our faith by those with clever tongues?

To live by faith you must know the Word of God. Look to God's word, the bible, and lay His word in your heart.
“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17 NKJV).

Snoozing on Watch.

All too often we fall asleep in meetings, at work, in our clubs and charities - and in our churches.
In the pews, prayer meeting, bible study, HomeGroup, I will admit I have fallen asleep at them all - and I dare say many of my readers have too.

We are not the first. A comfort? Maybe, but not to lull us into a sense of complacency. Jesus beseeches us as he did his disciples, "Watch and pray so that you will fall into temptation...."
Our flesh may be weak whilst our spirit is willing.
Do we need to change our lifestyle?

Lord,
All too often I do not give you my all.
Give me your courage and your strength and your wisdom,
That I may change.
Amen.
