Sinking Moon

The moon looked so magnificent this morning.
This was the view before I made my porridge. Breakfast eaten the moon had sunk behind the roofline.

Bin Surfin'

In a phone call yesterday to Scotland we chatted about the high winds, 150mph! - and the fact that maybe the wheelie bins needed to be weighed down.
This brought to my imagination the new sport of Whellie Bin Surfing.
This is the first draught of what will no doubt make it to my Postcard Series...

CherryHinton Hall Pond

Methinks the swan is slightly swan like, but the Mallard is more penguin like. At least it is a aquatic bird.

Sunday, 4 September 2011

I have traditionally drawn a coconut tree with the segmented trunk and large leaves.
My recent trip to Poro Island in The Camotes, Philippines showed me how wrong I was.
No segmentation and the leaves were made of fronds. Trees with large leaves as I previously drew turned out to be Banana Trees.

Portering

Many patients passed by as I waited for Suzanne to come out of surgery.
Did you know that in 7100 staff report for duty to work at Addenbrooke's Hospital each day.

Evensong

At 5 O'Clock the Church bell struck, calling worshippers to Choral Evensong. It is good to maintain a rhythm of prayer, worship and praise in our daily lives.

LightHice

The plural of Mouse is Mice;
I therefore submit the plural of LightHouse is LightHice...

We drove up to Blackpool to share in wedding celebrations, the theme throughout the entire day was the Lighthouse, at which Carl had proposed to Emma. Maybe he had already mapped out the thematic idea in chosing a romantic location, in which case I will not be surprised in 20 years time to hear they are living in their very own Lighthouse.
Subsequent to my drawing the LightHice above I have been told they are either red & white OR blue & white - but never Red & Blue. Seems my own LH are somewhat unique.

Seeing Fiona off to France

We set off very early to the bus stop. I do hope she makes all her bus, underground, train, ferry and train connections and changes OK! Have an excellent summer Fiona.

Bat Safari Punting

Last Friday was the world premier Bat Safari by punt which was GREAT fun. We set off in daylight travelling in a 4 punt convoy slowly navigating from the punt yard south towards Granchester.

At Skaters Fen the Bat Detection Units picked up their first signs, we spotted them swooping against the semi lit sky. For at least half an hour through dusk we spotted many more bats both high up against the sky and low down over the water.

Having turned back at the start of Granchester Meadows and with dark having enfolded us we broke out high power torches, we caught glimpses of several bats skimming low over the water on our return journey.

Though we had been supplied with Bat Identification Charts, we of course neither got close enough nor did the bats fly slowly enough to distinguish one species from another. However, it was a 75 minute tour I will remember with great delight for quite some time.

This shot does our chauffer far more justice than my sketch.

Modern Monk

Men's Breakfast was the inspiration for the sketch part of this postcard. Ben had placed his laptop on the rather wonderful Scripting Desk sat in the corner of our hosts living room.

"Faith, Words, Action" and Colossians 3:12 (oops, spot my written error!) were both inspiration from our service at church later on.

What I must remind myself when drawing on the Postcard Pad, make sure the pad is the right way up. The picture above is infact upside down to the PostCard markings on the reverse.

Sunrise: Son Risen

Easter Sunday - the day folk of the christian faith celebrate Jesus Christ, risen from the dead.
When I ran a church youth group we would sleep over in the church rooms each easter eve, having a midnight service before bedding down - and then waking just before dawn to the acclamation.

Jesus Christ is Risen Today!
to which we all enthusiastically replied
He is Risen Indeed, ALLELUIAH!

Our sleeping bags were somewhat harder to leave behind, but we would then join other parish members to a dawn cadlelit service in the church followed by a sizzling breakfast provided by an excelent team of cooks.

An Easter Card

At The Barn tonight there was a great piece of card in the recycling bin just crying out to be used - so I doodled you an Easter Card.

God Bless to my readers.

Mill Pond

Doodled whilst waiting for lunch. I have drawn from this self same spot before on the balcony bench at The Granta Pub in Cambridge.

The building opposite is the Old Water Mill, now Bella Itaila. I remember at one point it was a Sweeny Todd resteraunt.

Nowadays you can hire punts and canoes launching out from this pond from Granta Punt Hire Company

As a teenager we would punt under the building, look up and wave at customers eating their meal at a glass centered table. They would get quite a surprise! Last week I took my daughter on a punt on the Mill Pond, we tried this again and were rewarded by children waving excitedly down at the punt below.

NOT to be tried if you don't like being in a dark damp hole with spiders swinging around on their webs!

Cedric

This little chap is called Cedric, he has spent about 2 years on this island getting up to many different activities in different pictures. Many of these were drawn in letters and never scanned, so lost from my memory - haha. Can't keep archives of everything.

Birth congratulation card

Drawn in permanent marker on a piece of scrap card used as packaging in a parcel. Measuring 23 x 30cm this is the lagest postcard I have drawn and posted.

Hopefully it will arrive flat and still in one piece in Scotland.

Bird Bath

It has bean a beautiful summers day in spring, my sketch pad and I wandered into the garden.

I wonder how, though our garden is a small lawned area with brick walls and a bird feeder, this doodled onto my canvas.

TreeBeard

Listening to the 1980's BBC audio drama recording of Lord of The Rings atm. I used to rush home from Folk Dancing sessions just in time to catch the broadcast in half hourly bites. I recorded them onto cassette at the time, over the years with constant listenning these fell into dissrepair.
So glad they are now available as a paid Audible download. Hooray.

Isolation - or just hanging on.

Still on the theme of Hanging On.

Abba Father

Drew this from a slide at CRE Peterborough, particulary captured by the idea despite Abba Father holding us safe we still cling on for all it's worth.

Mother Cap Stone

I drove for a group this last weekend to Dore where I was able to go running through the fountains in Sheffield - and climb up into the Moors at Hathersage.

Returning home from The Orchard at Granchester

Back from a short time without computer access. This is the only sketch I have been able to save before sending off in postcard format.
